synagogue Rykestraße

Even though Rykestraße was not exactly a centre of Jewish settlement, because of the synagogue the street stands for the former prosperous live in the Berlin community. The Jewish community of Berlin located a synagogue there since another Lord’s house was required due to the immigration of first of all East-European Jews into the northeast of Berlin. Funeral corteges at interments started at the synagogue and led over the “Judengang” (Jews corridor) near the Kollwitzplatz to the Jewish cemetery at Schönhauser Allee.
