In 1826 the Kastanienallee was outside the city walls and was built to be the northern connection between the city and the Brandenburg suburbs. Today it connects the happening district of Prenzlauer Berg with its “in” restaurant and the vibrant center of Berlin-Mitte where cafes, bars, restaurants, pubs, designer shops and galleries sometimes hid inside or even behind the many reconstructed houses and courtyards.
