Hotel Kastanienhof
Staff are quick with a smile at this popular place, an excellent jumping-off point for exploring either Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg on foot. Most rooms exude old-time charm and are spacious enough to accommodate a desk and/or small sitting area. Those in need of more elbow space should book one of the good-value suites or apartments.

You´ll pay a bit more at the Hotel Pension Kastanienhof (Kastanienallee 65, 011-49-30-44-30-50; $ 95), but you get a bigger room, better service and the address – in Mitte, the city´s most happening section.
There are also larger rooms and suites for families.
